BOOK: Reprising Serial Mom in holiday photos

John Waters has a unique love of Christmas, and MARFA has a unique love of John Waters, so we decided to make a book about it.

Introducing A MARFA Christmas with John Waters.

Kathleen Turner, by Ethan James Green

Dreamlanders, friends old and new, all gather to appear in this MARFICTIONAL story – actors, behind-the-scenes collaborators and others who have worked with John Waters over the years. And though the book reads as if everyone was together on one night, the fact is, like the best gifts, it took a long time to wrap this up. Each interview is housed within a dreamt-up narrative set at one of John’s annual Christmas parties. This particular event may not be real, but the dialogue is all true to life. No words are falsified in this world, but everything else is untrue.

Produced by MARFOFFICE, with curation, design and production by Alexandra Gordienko, Julia Monsell and Jodie Hill, and words by Ross Aston. A MARFA Christmas with John Waters contains shoots and interviews, ephemera, one-off letters and rare archive imagery, accompanied by a short film by Clara Cullen.

Featuring Mink Stole, Kathleen Turner, Max Farago, Traci Lords, Johnny Knoxville, Ricki Lake, Senta Simond, Jeannette Montgomery Barron, Alasdair McLellan, Pat Moran, Jess Cole, Sophie Buhai, Ethan James Green, Ricky Saiz and many others on Santa’s naughty list.

KATHLEEN TURNER and MAGGIE SMITH in Conversation with GYLES BRANDRETH
in support of the Royal Theatrical Fund

8th April 2021, 6:30pm UK Time

Maggie Smith & Kathleen Turner

Maggie Smith & Kathleen Turner

Kathleen Turner met Maggie Smith in 2000 while they were performing in adjacent theatres in London’s West End – Maggie in The Lady in the Van at the Queens Theatre, and Kathleen in The Graduate at the Gielgud Theatre.

A series of pre/post show dinners evolved into a friendship which has endured the intervening 20 years. And yet, they have never performed together.

This unique event, hosted by Gyles Brandreth, brings Kathleen and Maggie together on screen for the first time. From either side of the Atlantic, the two iconic actresses will be sharing stories of their unusual childhoods and their remarkable careers on stage and screen. From The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie to The War of the Roses, from Friends to Harry Potter, expect laughter (and perhaps a few tears) along with stories you have never heard before.

With two Oscars, five Golden Globes and three Tonys between them, don’t miss the chance to spend an evening with Kathleen and Maggie as they compare notes and divulge secrets from two extraordinary careers.

The initial broadcast will be on 8th April 18:30 UK Time. It will be available to view up to a week after the event has ended and can be accessed worldwide. If you live in a time zone that does not suit the initial broadcast time, you can watch it at any point after the initial showing for one week. It will be available to view up to a week after the event has ended.

Kathleen Turner live onstage during her one-woman stage show, Finding My Voice – AMY BOYLE

The iconic Hollywood actress Kathleen Turner brings back her stage show Finding My Voice to The Green Room 42 in New York City on January 10.

Best known for her husky voice as Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the Golden Globe-winning star of Romancing the Stone and Prizzi's Honor, puts her own life in the spotlight. For this show, she has new, never-seen-beore additions for this New York show, after it toured San Francisco to London, and beyond. Read More

Kathleen Turner would probably be the first person to tell you that the idea of her singing in a nightclub would be an unlikely scenario - but singing in a nightclub she is. Long known for her unique and unmistakable voice, this great American actress has never been one that the public would naturally associate with musical theater, cabaret, or record albums. In point of fact, hers is a quite musical voice, melodic and mellifluous, with interesting rhythms, uncommon speech patterns, and individual intonations, so the idea of Miss Turner raising her voice in song shouldn't be that great a reach for the imagination. Nevertheless, as the famous smoky whiskey baritone has deepened over the years, one might suspect that this was an avenue of the performing arts that would be left unexplored by the legendary lady whose work has been vastly celebrated for over four decades.

Kathleen Turner on Acting
Conversations about Film, Television, and Theater

by Kathleen Turner, Dustin Morrow

Few actors have had a career as dynamic as that of Kathleen Turner's; success has followed her from the television screen to major blockbusters, from indie films to the theater stage. Over her forty-year career, Turner has developed an instinctual knowledge of what it takes to be a successful actor, and, in her conversations with esteemed film professor Dustin Morrow, she shares these lessons with the world.

With her iconic wit on full display, Turner dazzles readers with her shrewd insights on the craft of acting and charming anecdotes from her own storied career. Touching on each of her roles, she expounds on the lessons she’s learned and describes her journey of discovery in the world of acting.

An epic and intense one-on-one master class in acting from the best teacher imaginable, Kathleen Turner on Acting is a must for acting and directing students of every age, established actors and directors, filmmakers, theater pros, and artists of every stripe.  Buy Here

Turner, the husky-voiced screen star known for iconic roles in Body Heat and Romancing the Stone, weighs in on her 40-year career in question-and-answer format, led by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and author Morrow (digital film production, Portland State Univ.). However, the title sells this book short. Yes, Turner talks about her methods and how acting in films, on television (she started in the soapThe Doctors), and on the stage differ, but this volume is also a master class on show business. Turner candidly discusses her career and movies, with some no-nonsense, insider observations about herself and the film business, but this is not a juicy celebrity biography (she gave us that with her 2008 memoirSend Yourself Roses). No, this is a serious and insightful work on acting and directing and what it takes to make it in that competitive world.
VERDICT For anyone involved in film, television, or theater or wishing to be!   – Library Journal

TIME OUT NEW YORK:
Kathleen Turner brings her raw star power to the Metropolitan Opera

Portrait by James Emmerman

On February 7, 2019, Kathleen Turner made her Metropolitan Opera debut as the Duchess of Krakenthorp in Donizetti’s La Fille du Régiment.

After more than 40 years spent dominating film and theater—in movies such as Serial Momand The War of the Roses as well as the Tony-nominated stage revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?—Kathleen Turner is taking on a new challenge: opera. Starting February 7, the voice behind Jessica Rabbit tackles a nonsinging role in the Metropolitan Opera’s retooling of the French comedy La Fille du Régiment. We talked to the longtime New Yorker about moving to Tribeca from the Upper West Side and making her mark as the show’s Duchess of Krakenthorp.David Goldberg, Time Out

Playbill interviews Kathleen about her Operatic Debut.

“Risks are my business…

…Every new job, frankly, is a risk because there’s always a possibility of failure. But that’s my job. Unless I’m willing to risk failure, I don’t grow. And isn’t that what we’re supposed to be doing here on earth?”
